This year has been a wonderful year teaching your children. The students learned a lot and have been very successful in their studies. I really enjoyed teaching them, and they were a wonderful class who were engaged in their learning.
I just wanted to pass on some information about apangea math. This note came from the Idaho State Department of Education. This is in regards to a summer math program on line. It is free and can offer some practice in math concepts along with earning some monetary rewards. As parents you may sign up your child. There is a drop down menu and you can pick parent to sign up your child. This is the following information:

"Apangea Summer Math Splash – This summer, Apangea Learning is sponsoring the Summer Math Splash, an innovative program designed to keep students doing math during the summer vacation. Students can use their current Apangea log in to participate or teachers can enroll students by contacting their local Program Manager. Additionally, parents can now enroll their child themselves using this easy link: www.apangea.com/lms/parents/parentsignup.aspx . We are giving away some great prizes starting in June including movie tickets, Flip video cameras, Nook Color Readers, and a laptop computer for students who work on math this summer. Apangea Math is available any place there is a computer with an Internet connection, including at any Idaho public library, through “online @ your library,” the Idaho Commission for Libraries’ Broadband Technology Opportunities Program."

Starry Night

Vincent Van Gogh

1853-1890

We studied a little of Vincent Van Gogh in art class. We learned about his life, his style of painting, and specifically focused on Starry Night. The students then did a recreation of Starry Night.
Here below is the original along with a commentary of what Van Gogh might have been trying to convey through this magnificent work of art. It truly is an up lifting piece of artwork.

It IS FROG TIME AGAIN! YEA!

Mr. Kerby has challenged each class to read read read! What does this have to do with frog? Well, reading earns our class a spot in the GREAT FROG JUMPING CONTEST of PARK SCHOOL. EVERY student in my class needs to have at least 5 AR points by Oct. 6th. We are on track right now, but each student must all do their part. If each student reads at least 5 AR points and our class has an overall 180 points, then we will qualify to enter a frog for the contest. This is a really big event. It includes a parade for the frogs and frog handlers. After will be the Great FROG JUMPING CONTEST of Park School. We have lots to look forward too as a class of great readers. Keep READING!

Great First Day

I just would like to let everyone know that we had a GREAT first day. I was so impressed with how well mannered and ready to learn the students were. Good Job.
Also, the tabs at the top have links for each subject that I find helpful for students when they want to know more about a subject or they want help studying a new concept. The Miscellaneous tab has links that fit multiple subjects. Have fun!

Welcome to 5th grade. We are going to have a wonderful class this year. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you. We will be learning lots of fun and exciting things this year. I am excited to share a successful year with you. Notice under the "Educational Websites" section there is a link to where I have posted homework assignments. Also there are tabs across the top where this can also be accessed along with tabs for subject areas which contain educational links for each subject.
